Ian is currently headteacher of Mills Hill Primary School in Chadderton, Oldham which is a cohort 1 national teaching school in partnership with Kingfisher Special School [Schools with Schools]. Mills Hill was judged to be outstanding in 2007 and this judgement was affirmed by Ofsted in 2010. Standards remain high and have improved further in recent years. Mills Hill has local, national and international recognition for its work with Kagan Co-operative learning.
He has been a teacher for 30 years, a headteacher for 14 years and a local authority school improvement advisor for 4 years working in a wide range of schools across a number of local authorities.
He is an advanced facilitator on the NPQ programmes and brings a unique style to his delivery. Locally, Ian leads the Oldham Schools Alliance ITT work hub, is a member of the school to school support hub and serves on the Oldham Schools Alliance executive board.
Ian was previously accredited as a school improvement partner and his services are still much sought after by schools in his previous local authority – including establishing the Learning Federation, a time-limited structural solution to turn around a school with significant difficulties.
Wherever he has worked, Ian has collaborated with a wide range of agencies and other providers to secure improved outcomes for all.
